Brown Eyed Girls – Abracadabra
Abracadabra is a great song for me to dance to because it has strong tempo, and the dance of the MV is easy and addictive. This song was a huge success in 2010 in Korea, rousing a dancing cover trend among netizens – school aged girls and boys, teachers, and even other Korean groups (2PM and 2AM members did a hilarious cover).
In my opinion, one of the greatest reason of the success is again the addictive and simple melody. The first verse comes with a murmurous melody using only a few keys, and it grabs listeners’ attention right away as it corresponds with the title “Abracadabra”. The subtle but haughty hip moving dance gives a sensual feeling, which attracts people’s eyeball. Also, as I mentioned above, the dance is easy to mimic, so audience can actually follow the music and start dancing along easily.
Maybe the technique used for this song to grab attention is too hackneyed, nevertheless, the song received a great success (and I love dancing to it 😀 ).
*Note: Brown Eyed Girls (B.E.G.) is a Korean girl group managed by Nega Network. The group consists of four members: Jea, Miryo, Narsha, and Ga-in. Their style of music changed over time, and for the recent 2 years it has developed into a more unique and bizarre (and sensual of course) style – in a good way, I mean. In a way, their music, appearance, and setting of music videos represent a great deal of artistic appeal rather than just the conventional “cute, pretty and cute again” appeal that’s often used in Korean pop, or idol, industry.
